Arvo Pärt - Estonian composer usually linked stylistically with Henryk Gorecki (whose Symphony Number 3 I will not link - but a work you should seek out immediately - as it is both brilliant and beautiful). Pärt's music is often called sacred minimalism for its connection to sacred church music and its use of minimal repeating motifs. Frates is among his most popular works:

One more Arvo Pärt piece - this is a beautiful work which requires little introduction:

It's the counter point to Trisian's Daily LOL - I'll try to incorporate more than just music associated with the Western European classical tradition.

Also - anyone else feel free to post :D

First person to post a Thorim's 'in the mountains' remix link in here is getting a swift kick in the face.

Just an FYI.

No worries I got this old man. Go back to taking your nap.

I love it when people underestimate me. I played the oboe for 4 years and went to Interlochen. http://www.interlochen.org/

Here's another form of art I also like. While the main focus is the visual, the presentation is always set to music and relies upon such to set the "mood" during the performance. Enjoy

Thanks for the selections, guys...some great ones posted. I love the Adrian Legg clip. Trisian - if you played oboe - where's the oboe music?

Anyway - my choice for the day is Astor Piazzolla. Argentinean born composer. Trained in Paris - his music combines Latin rhythms with Jazz harmonies and western European counterpoint and forms. I love this dude's music...

Piazzolla's instrument of choice is the bandoneón...and he was true master pushing the boundaries of technique and sound. Unfortunately Youtube is short on actual Piazzolla recordings. Accept no substitutes. No one plays his music like Piazzolla himself - and there is a wealth of recording material out there.

Ok - there are *some* decent interpretations of Piazzolla's music out there.

Nobuo Uematsu is one of my favorites of all time. He composed all of the Final Fantasy series of music and the "Dear Friends" poster behind him in this picture is a tour he put on in 2004. I went to go see the encore tour in Chicago 2005 with the Chicago Pops. Plenty of Oboe in these.

Here are come samples of his work.

HD music loads slow >.<
